Fashion is an overwhelmingly female passion. It is a fact that women are more beautiful than men. Women always want to look and feel beautiful. Women and fashion go hand in hand. Women have a sense of dressing and style. Each woman is a separate individual with tastes and preferences of her own. They want to show off their uniqueness and personality in the dress and all accessories they wear. When we talk of trendy clothes for women we think of designers and no doubt male designers are famous for creating beautiful outfits for women. World renowned designers like Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Gianni Versace are designers whose names are synonymous with feminine style. They have been followed by Dolce and Gabbana, Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford. In our part of the world male designers such as Deepak Perwani, Rizwan Beyg, Nomi Ansari, and many others have been designing picturesque costumes for women since many years. In the surge of new male designers Rizwanullah, Zaheer Abbas and Xeeshan Ali have clearly made their place among established designers.

Now Munaf has also introduced his line of clothes for women in the Karachi market. Although Munaf is new in the designing field, his passion for designing is very old. This week Munaf talks to You! about his label and his likes and dislikes:

You! When did you launch your label?

Munaf: I launched my collection in October 2011. My label is called 'Revamp'.

You! What is your design philosophy?

M: I believe in designing elegant clothes. I stress on simple, clean cuts.

You! You worked for Depilex for many years as an image consultant what made you change you field?

M: I worked as an image consultant for Depilex Vision for 19 years. But then I thought of giving a shot to my childhood passion - designing!

You! What type of clothes you design for women?

M: I make casuals to semi-formal dresses for women. My clothes are essentially wearable. I also do soft evening wears. I design trendy shirts for men too. I don't have an outlet but I stock my stuff at Feathers, Forum, Clifton.

You! Why do you think women should wear designer clothes?

M: Wearing designer clothing is about making a fashion statement. Wearing designer clothes is all about looking good and flaunting the fact that you can afford to wear a designer label. It is well known that designer clothes do cost a little more than their mass produced counter parts but standing out from the crowd is worth the extra expense to impress your friends and associates.

You! What are the difficulties faced by designers in getting their work done?

M: It is difficult to get good karigars and make them to understand your creative and imaginative ideas. From buying material to finishing it all involves hard work.

You! What are the high points and low points of being a designer?

M: High points being you get fame and money, and low points being when your ideas are stolen by others or when your trained karigar is hijacked by some designer aunty!

You! What are the latest trends in summer?

M: These days smart floral prints are in as it's summer time. A-line shirts are getting replaced by straight shirts and kurtas. Colours like burnt orange, emerald green and fuchsia pink are in.

You!  What are you currently working on?

M: I am working on my hand painted pure silk collection called 'Tropical'

You! Your favourite international labels

M: 'Splash' and 'Zara'

You! Your favourite photographer

M: I can't name one. All are good. (hmm... Munaf ... being diplomatic)

You! Your favourite designer

M: Very difficult to answer (he wants to play safe)

You! What do you usually wear in daily life?

M: I prefer well fitted jeans and casual T. shirts

You! Do you think there is potential for new designers in our fashion industry?

M: Yes, there is a big market out there but you need to be focused and sincere with your work.

You! One thing you like best about yourself?

M: I am very organised

You! What is your philosophy of life?

M: Give your 100% to whatever you choose to do and leave the rest to God.
