Shah Rukh Khan has found a friend in Akshay Kumar. While Salman and Aamir continue to pat each other on the back, it was Akshay Kumar who celebrated with SRK in Chennai after Khan's IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders picked up their maiden IPL trophy. Alongside the cast and crew of Rowdy Rathore, SRK and Akshay partied hard. Prior to IPL, Akshay and SRK also shared light moments on the sets of Akshay's show, Masterchef India. Ask Khiladi Kumar and he has nothing but kind words to say about Shah Rukh Khan. Talking to Times of India, Akshay commented about his friendship with SRK: "We are colleagues, so there's always been some sort of camaraderie between us. We share a mutual respect for each other's work. In fact, I really appreciate the way he made such a big action film like Ra.One. How many producers or actors would bring such kind of special effects and pump in so much money for a project? Of course, it was great to connect with him at the IPL matches too."
These days, there is no bigger star than Akshay Kumar in Bollywood. He delivered the biggest hit of 2012 with Housefull 2, which went on to collect approximately Rs 175 crores on the box office. Changing gear with Rowdy Rathore, Akshay has now delivered another hit film, which has already overtaken Agneepath and Salman Khan's Ready in box office collections. Ask Akshay Kumar why he opts for over-the-top commercial flicks rather than meaningful cinema ala Aamir Khan and he says, "There is no other way out for me! In the early phase of my career, I tried doing films like Sangharsh, even in the last few years I did 8x10 Tasveer, Patiala House but I only got critical acclaim for it. There were no results at the box-office. I would love to do a meaningful film after doing the regular masala commercial entertainers at the BO, but one has to remember that there is huge money involved here. Having said that, actors have to do what masses love and appreciate us for.” |
