The CFDA award winning womenswear designers of the year (and forever in our hearts the Full House twins) Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are being publicly ridiculed by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). The animal rights group is in a fit of rage over a bag from the Olsens' line, The Row. This isn't just any bag, this is a $16,900 tote bag which stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe has dubbed the must-have bag for pre-fall.
This isn't winning any favours with PETA. According to E!, the animal rights group released the following statement: “If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin-or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals. What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators-who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain-who pay the dearest price.”
Stylelist.com reports that PETA has been using the term Trollsen since 2007 and the hate doesn't stop there: “There's even an entire website devoted to 'Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen.' You can dress the terrifying twins up in dead animals and even watch a (we have to admit, sorta clever) video called “Full House of Horrors.” Some naked guy visits the Tanner family and warns them about Michelle's future-the requisite horrifying animal-killing footage follows, as well as a montage of the the Olsens 'and their shrunken bodies wrapped in fur.'”
Truth be told, the ridiculously expensive bag isn't all that cute anyway. |
