  Poetry Competition
Hey Eddie!
I am one of the participants of the ‘Us Poetry Competition’. I was out of city and could not get Us in the place I was visiting when the poetry edition came out. Therefore, I missed the results. So, can you guys send me the result? Since July we have not been receiving Us, which is quite frustrating for me as I want to know the results.

We took out a special issue for the poetry writing competition on June 29. You can access the issue online at www.thenews.com.pk
Queries
Dear Ed,
First of all, I would like to thank you for publishing my first e-mail in your magazine and hope you will print this letter. I want to participate in the story writing competition. Can I send you three stories from my e-mail as my two younger sisters also wanted to participate in the competition but they don’t have their personal e-mail accounts?
I also have a request! Can you publish an article on A’ levels schools in Karachi with their fees structure and scholarships offers?
Amna Rizwan, Karachi
You can send Us three stories from the same email id as long as they are from different writers.
An old reader wants to know…
Dear Editor,
I have been reading Us magazine since I was 11 and this is my first letter. I am a freelancer and normally I write online in columns. Can we contribute articles or just stories? And, what about payment?
Mehreen binte Talha, Islamabad
You can contribute both, and we pay for the contributions.
Spirit of Ramazan
Editor,
The month of Ramazan is a wonderful opportunity for Muslims to develop feelings of compassion for the needy and to renew their faith. However, many people have labelled this month as the month of ‘Cooking Shows’ and ‘Late Night Shopping’. The last ashra has a special significance and demands utmost focus of all efforts towards worship, but it is this peak time that people tend to spend in shopping malls. We ought to finish our shopping earlier, and traders also need to complete their sales earlier so that both the buyers and sellers could gain the most of Ramazan’s blessings.

Caring about Muslims
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw your attention to the killing of Muslims in Burma and Palestine. Why is the magazine silent on these things? We are Muslims and we should care about each other and help each other as we are brothers. Please, Editor, spread some awareness.
Ismaeel Moeen, Mirpur Mathelo
You have left out Pakistan here…. Eh, it seems we don’t believe in ‘Pakistan first’.
Kudos for Asif Nawaz
A.o.A Ed,
Karachi wasn’t at the top of my list of the 100 cities I’d like to visit someday; it wasn’t even at its bottom, to be quite honest, it wasn’t there at all. All thanks to our media, I literally detested the place. But the cover story of July 20, 2012, ‘In the City by the Sea’ definitely made Karachi a part of that list. Although it still isn’t at the top, it’s very much there and in the top 30. After having a look at the cover, I thought the cover story would tell us how Karachi has evolved from a metropolitan to the hub of gruesome happenings, but I was in for a surprise!
I wish Mohammad Asif Nawaz had a cousin in every single city of Pakistan and all of them had their weddings coming up so that we could get to know how wonderful the rest of Pakistan is. I’m not sure whether he would be able to write like this with his very hectic routine, but I want to read more about my country in Asif Nawaz’s fashion because it makes her all the more desirable.
Kudos to him for a remarkable job and I hope that he and the likes will continue to paint such beautiful pictures of Pakistan for the world to see as she is in desperate need of it.

Story Writing Competition
Dear readers,
We have received several letters requesting us to extend the date for the submission of stories because of Ramazan, which is quite understandable. So your new deadline is August 30. Non negotiable:P

Reflection
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allah’s Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, ‘O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity.’ So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of charity.” Abu Bakr (R.A) said, “Let my parents be sacrificed for you, O Allah’s Apostle! No distress or need will befall him who will be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called from all these gates?” The Prophet (S.A.W) replied, “Yes, and I hope you will be one of them.”
