When it comes to beauty treatments especially for your hair, you just want the best. And of course why shouldn't you. Your hair is an important part of your personality and with a great cut and colour you can look groomed and beautiful. And that is where our beauticians come in who can professionally guide you. Trained beauticians provide a variety of services such as hair care treatment, facial, massage treatment, make-up, wax etc. They also give personalised beauty analysis to their clients and guide them about what treatment to go for, keeping in mind the clients' hair and skin type.

This week You! talks exclusively to our very own expert hair stylist and beautician Humaa Tahir of Humaa n Zara salon. Read on to find out more about the beautician herself, the latest trends and tips regarding hair care.

Humaa Tahir is a seasoned beautician who has been in the beauty business for the past 14 years. She has done the make-up of various fashion shows and apart from that, she has worked with the best designers and the top most models in town. But her career didn't just start off from the top; it took her continuous years of hard work to make a name in the industry. Humaa's entry in the world of beauticians happened by chance. "My cousin got a job in a channel and she offered me to work there as a make-up artist for a show...and that's how it all started. Later on I joined Saima and learned the tricks of the trade," says Humaa.

Having been present in the industry for more than a decade now, Humaa opened up her salon called 'Humaa n Zara Salon' almost three years back. "After working for many years I wanted to open up a salon of my own where I could do whatever I felt like and have my own set of laws. I admit that I learnt a lot from working at other salons but over there I was bound to follow certain rules and regulations," shares Humaa.

She has done various hair care, make-up and skin courses from abroad. She strongly believes that a refresher course is a must after every few months because the trends are changing rapidly and it is essential for a beautician to be updated with the latest styles and techniques in hair and make-up. Her experience as a make-up artist and hair stylist includes a rotary of professional training courses from the likes of Pivot Point Singapore, Toni & Guy USA, L'Oreal and Schwarzkopf Germany.

Even though Humaa enjoys all kinds of make-up, her expertise are in hair styling, hair cuts and hair colouring. "I have always been into hair styling. And every now and then I try out something different with my own hair, be it hair colours or various hair styles. Hair styling and colouring is my passion. By experimenting with hair I feel satisfied and I can always unleash my creativity," she states. Talking about latest trends in hair colour she says, "In hair colours medium chocolate brown, light caramel are 'in'. Basically all shades of browns are very popular over here. But in Western countries women are opting for bold colours like blonde, reds and oranges."

Humaa has done six courses of hair care and make-up from Lebanon in the past two years in which she has learnt about the latest cuts, colours and styles. She also worked as a technical advisor of Schwarzkopf for two years in which she provided her clients with professional consultancy that included sessions of cut, colour, hair management and make-up .

Her salon Humaa n Zara offers all the hair care range including hair cuts by Humaa herself along with colours and treatments by Schwarzkopf and many other services that you want to indulge in.

Tips by Humaa

According to Humaa it is very important to take care of your skin and hair. Apply skin repair creams to keep your skin healthy and fresh. Whatever happens, make sure that you do cleansing before going to bed.

The latest hair trends include lots of layers. The length can be short or long. Whatever style or length you choose, ensure that your hair cut sports lots of layering and textures. In the West short hair styles and prominent cuts are very much in vogue. Natural and less made up hair styles are the 'it' thing.

Hair that is naturally wavy is quite a rage these days. If you have curly or wavy hair do not iron or straighten them. Enjoy your curls and use products such as wave shocks and curl balms to tame your locks.

For hair care go for treatments like oil massages from a reputed salon. Also it is essential to use conditioners whenever you shampoo especially in Karachi because of its humid weather. And leave-in conditioners are a great product if you want to manage your curls and control frizzy hair.
