  In the name of fashion

Recently, we witnessed a thematic show by a so-called fashion designer at a local hotel. The show was part of an event organized and hosted by a Japanese company. Though the event was well organized, the fashion show which was supposed to be a fusion of hi-tech industry and fashion had nothing exciting to offer to write home about. The designer showed tawdry dresses in the name of fashion. Even the models including Zeba Ali, Nadia Hussain and Maha seemed awkward flaunting those tacky outfits on the ramp. The only entertaining element was the performance by a female vocalist Zoe Vacciji. She was no doubt the saving grace of the otherwise boring show. The event was attended by a number of people from corporate sector and the distinguished guests also included Mr. Masaharu Sato, Consul General of Japan, and Mr. Keiichiro Utsumi, MD & CEO, Hinopak Motors. We have no dearth of good and talented designers and our fashion industry is creating waves internationally. Despite that what we showed to them was so embarrassing. It seems that favouritism and politics have intervened in every arena including even the creative fields like fashion.  Need we say more?
