Kudos for the poetry issue

Dear Ed,

The poetry issue (29 June) was just brilliant. I loved each and every article but Faiza's 'Miss You Faiz' was excellent. I hope next time someone would also write about Habib Jalib.

Rutaba Tanvir.

Next time, it could be you!

Gold Dust

AoA,

I really liked Us today (July 6). Saad Javed has a unique style of writing fiction and it is matchless. His story was beautiful.

I have an idea. Tell us about Us. How did it all start? Who were the initial founding editors? Where are they now? Include their opinion and experiences. Share with us how Us has evolved over the time. Tell us about the writers that have taken Us this far.

Hey Ed,

It seems that you succumbed to the demands of your readers finally! Great to see Saad Javed’s ‘Gold Dust’ - a story from him after such a long time. I want another one like ‘Begums and broomstick’, though, and I am sure all Us readers would second me!

Sohaib Hassan, Karachi

Dear Ed,

I had been missing stories from Saad, and was happy to read ‘Gold Dust’ - it was a great read, but I miss Saad’s ‘Heart to Heart’, too. Another section that I would like to see more often in Us is ‘Chachi Chatters’. Seriously, that dame is amazing! I am her fan.

Ed, the Poetry Competition was laudable, and should be made into an annual feature. Naeema, you are doing great work ... more power to your keyboard!

Query

Editor,

I am a big fan of your magazine, as it is quite informative. I would be glad if I could contribute some of my work to your magazine, as I am very good at writing on different topics and poems also. I would be thankful to you if you could tell me the procedure to send my contributions, and, do you also pay the contributors?

I will be waiting for your reply...

Alina

You can send your contributions to us.mag@thenews.com.pk Yes, Alina, we pay the contributors for their articles.

Hi Ed,

I cannot express in words how awesome the issue of June 29 was! It was a real treat! I read every item over and over and over again ... and just could not stop! Thank you for bringing out such a wonderful piece of literature. Congratulations to all the winners of the Poetry Competition and thumbs up to Us team!

Azka Irfan, Abbottabad

Feedback

A.O.A Ed,

I have been reading Us for last few months and have always remained a silent reader, but I think it’s time to participate in this fabulous effort. Firstly, I would like to appreciate Us and then would like to suggest that there should be two pages for Us mails instead of a single one, so more readers will be able to express themselves. Good luck, Team Us.

Usman Javed, Peshawar

Tolerance needed

AOA,

Hats off to our nation! Whenever there is some issue, we all (this includes me, too) come up with our own views, no matter how wrong we might be! And as they say in Urdu: duniya ider ki udher ho jae, we are not ready to listen to the true story. THINK!

Osama Qazi

Is that it?

Editor,

It's been some time since I wrote to any magazine but the recent issues of this mag have compelled me to do so. First of all, I would like to say THANK GOD the          barbaric era is over ... (what?) yeah, the civil war that was going on between girls and boys! And, secondly, thanks to those ‘war gods’ who have been promoting this unfriendliness for showing mercy. I and a number of my friends out there were feeling the unromantic and unpatriotic aura ... come on guys, where are you heading to? Talk about  the lack of unity among Muslim nations, or the intolerance within our provinces but hey what are we doing? Promoting gender discrimination? Is that what we are being taught at academic institutions? Is that it?

I may sound critical but guys and gals of Pakistan evoke the tailed beast (the so-called chibi) with in you and say with full zest that WE ARE ONE!

Humera Maryam, Islamabad

Reflection

Narrated by Sahl (R.A): The Prophet (S.A.W) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."
