Disinformation is one of the biggest threats facing Pakistan today. It weakens our democracy, spreads chaos in society and makes people lose trust in important institutions. Even the economy suffers when fake financial news spreads panic and affects markets.
Pakistan must take the threat of widespread misinformation seriously. We need proper fact-checking, better rules for online spaces and media education and literacy to help people spot false news.
