ISLAMABAD: Dilawar Abbas Syed, US President Joe Biden’s Special Representative on Business and Commercial Affairs, belongs to Sialkot. In 1989, he went to the US on a student visa after completing his O Level from Aitchison College. He held important positions in the US government.
He is greatly inspired by former PM Benazir Bhutto. He was also a good orator in his school days and won many prizes. “Once, Benazir Bhutto was the special guest at Aitchison College. After listening to my speech, she asked me to write a speech for her. It was an important moment which helped me reach where I am today,” he recounted.
“I first began reading the Imruz newspaper at the age of four and then the Jang newspaper remained under study. I read Urdu newspapers keenly.”
Syed holds an MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a BA in Economics and Computer Science from the University of Texas, Austin. He fluently speaks Urdu and loves Pakistan.
Dilawar says Sialkot is his native city and whenever he visits there, he meets his relatives and friends. “I also meet people at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discuss trade and investment opportunities between US and Pakistan,” he maintained.
