Today’s LRC races dedicated to 1965 martyrs

LAHORE: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) while entering into its opening winter meeting, will be paying tributes to the martyrs of the Pakistan armed forces who sacrificed their lives in their quest to save their motherland in 1965.

As part of the acknowledgement, eight cup races for Sunday have been named after shuhada of the armed forces who were bestowed with Nishan-e-Haider. The races will also to mark the Defence Day of Pakistan.

The Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider Cup events have been named after Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfooz, Major Tufail Muhammad, Hawaldar Lalak Jan, Major Shabbir Sharif, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, Major Muhammad Akram, Sawar Muhammad Hussain and Major Raja Aziz Bhatti and four of the races are of class VII but of different divisions with its own importance and significance.

The opening race is Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfooz Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider Cup, which is of Division-V with Welcome Ladla being favourite and Chhota Pathan for place and Chota Raja is on fluke. The lineup of 14 also has Pehlwan Prince, Wonder Boy, Jahanzaib Princess, Mera Darwaish, Amigo, Awan Choice, Safdar Princess, Hazara Love, Aman Prince, Macs and Back In Black.

The Major Tufail Muhammad Cup, which is a Division-IV&V scale is the second race of the day with Samore Star being the favourite. Black Powder may take the place with a surprise expected from Danial Prince. The others in the field of nine are Merchant of Venus, One Ten, Gul-e-Jalal, Prince of Baghban, Lahif and Fazeel Prince.

The third race is Hawaldar Lalak Jan Cup, which is of Division-VI and here favourite is Master Prince. The place expected to be taken by Zoaq-e-Yaqeen with Chan Pari being on fluke. The remaining field of 13 also has Malno Star, Umer Princess, Maurtajil, Chan Punjabi, Hyper Trapper, Khanum Princess, Red Boy, Mafnood JR, Neeli The Great and Bullet Train.
