MIRPURKHAS: Stagnant floodwaters in the several villages of Mirpurkhas district have increased the miseries of students as they have to walk through several feet of filthy water to reach their makeshift schools.
In Mirpurkhas, four villages of union council Roshanabad are still facing issue of stagnation of floodwater even after passage of two and half months. Besides, villages Saindad Aliani, Ali Bakhsh Kaloi, Manji Kuchi, Bakhar and Jaskani with a population of more than 10,000 people are also submerged in the floodwaters.
In village Saindad Aliani, which has a population of around 5,000 people, two government schools are surrounded by several feet of rainwater, hampering educational activities in the area. Such a grave situation is posing serious challenges for the students to make it to their makeshift schools and raising question mark over the performance of the concerned authorities, who have failed to drain out stagnant floodwaters even after passage two-and-a-half months period.
The residents of these areas have been protesting against the concerned authorities but the latter have paid no heed to their miseries.
The residents said their crops were completely destroyed, houses damaged in the floodwaters but now the future of their children was at stake.
