ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday morning confirmed that it had received the summary from the Defence Ministry for the appointment of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
“The PM’s Office has received the summary from the Ministry of Defence with a panel of names for the appointment of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Army Staff,” the official Twitter account of the PM Office said. The PM Office said the decision regarding the appointments would be taken as per procedure. “The Prime Minister will take a decision on the appointments as per the laid down procedure,” it said.
Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a tweet had said General Headquarters (GHQ) had forwarded the summary to the Ministry of Defence for the selection of CJCSC and COAS, containing names of six senior-most Lieutenant Generals.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Wednesday the federal cabinet and coalition partners would be taken on board regarding the appointment of a new Army chief, the Radio Pakistan reported.
Talking to media persons in Islamabad, the minister said uncertainty in media regarding the appointment of next Army chief would likely end in next one or two days. Responding to a question, the minister said important decisions like the appointment of Army chief should be taken in the best interest of the country and nation in light of the Constitution and law without having any political considerations.
