ISLAMABAD: Four policemen, including an officer, were martyred when their vehicle came under attack by unidentified armed men in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtun-khwa (KP), an official said on Wednesday.
The police personnel were on routine patrol late Tuesday night when unidentified gunmen riding on motorcycles sprayed bullets on their vehicle in Wanda Mir Alami area, Deputy Commissioner Lakki Marwat district Iqbal Hussain told the media. Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the site and cordoned off the area.
Banned militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the attack in a statement sent to the local media, however, it had not yet been officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister KP Mehmood Khan strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Lakki Marwat district and expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of four policemen. In a statement, he expressed solidarity with the families of the slain policemen and conveyed his heartfelt condolences. He directed the police for taking necessary steps for apprehending the culprits involved in the incident. He said such cowardly terrorist attacks could not weaken the resolve and spirit of the policemen fighting terrorism.
