PESHAWAR: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and three of his squad members embraced martyrdom, while six policemen sustained injuries in a terrorist attack on a police station followed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on DSP’s vehicle in Lakki Marwat in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to police, terrorists first attacked Saddar police station with modern and heavy weapons but the police personnel who were alert gave a befitting response, as a result the terrorists retreated and escaped by taking advantage of darkness.

However, in an exchange of fire five police personnel deployed at the police station, including a head constable, sustained injuries. As soon as the information went viral on the police wireless system, DSP Iqbal Mohmand along with his squad rushed to the police station to rescue the injured policemen but he himself fell prey to the IED blast at Peerwale Mor, and three constables of his squad embraced martyrdom, while the driver of the vehicle was injured.

Other police teams rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area and started a search operation, while Rescue-1122 teams reached the spot and shifted the dead and the injured to hospital. DSP Mohmand had been serving in Lakki Marwat for a long time and had conducted several successful operations against terrorists and criminals.
