MANSEHRA: The local police on Monday arrested a man who allegedly killed his daughter recently after her video with a boy went viral on social media.
The Kolai-Palas police Deputy Superintendent of Police Masood Khan confirmed the arrest. He said raids were being conducted in the far-off mountainous Barsharyal village in the district where the girl was allegedly killed on the proclamation of decree by the jirga after a video in which two local girls were seen with boys had gone viral on the social media, the other day.
The police took into protective custody one of two boys seen with the slain girl in the video. The DSP said the girl, who was sent home on the order of the local court, was married to a local boy on Sunday night.
The police had sought the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Department’s assistance to arrest those who had uploaded the videos and photos on social media through the fake accounts.
The SHO of the Palas police station, Noor Mohammad Khan, had lodged the first information report of the incident under sections 302/311 and 109 Pakistan Penal Code when none of the family members of the slain girl turned up for the registration of the murder executed allegedly on the order of the Jirga.
One such video scam had surfaced in 2013, which later led to the killing of five women allegedly on order by the jirga when the video clip in which they were cheering a dancing boy had gone viral on social media.
The four brothers of the boy seen dancing in the video were killed as well allegedly on the decree by the jirga. Meanwhile, Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah took notice of the alleged killing of a girl on the reported decree by a local jirga.
An official communication said he directed the additional chief secretary (home) to take necessary steps for an immediate inquiry into the incident and submit him a detailed report to this effect.
The chief minister directed the provincial police chief to take steps to arrest all those involved in the incident. Syed Arshad Hussain Shah ordered the relevant officials to ensure that all necessary measures were taken to provide full protection to the girl who was seen with the slain girl in the video.
