Minister for establishing technical institutions for special children

LAHORE:Provincial Caretaker Minister of Health, Social Welfare and Bait ul Mal Prof Dr Javed Akram said that technical educational institutions should be set up for the development of special children in the country. Special children deserved our more attention from society.

He expressed these views while talking at a ceremony organised to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities at a school of Social Welfare Complex Township on Monday. Dr Javed Akram said that we have to make all possible efforts for providing all the necessities of life to special children. Allah the Almighty has blessed these special children with immense abilities, he added.

A large number of hearing-impaired children and their teachers were present on this occasion. The hearing-impaired children also performed on national songs to win huge appreciation from the audience.

The provincial minister visited the classrooms and met with the special children and their teachers. He was briefed about the education provided to the hearing impaired children at the school. He also cut a cake during the ceremony.

Ministers, UNICEF team discuss MICS initiatives

Provincial Caretaker Minister of Health, Social Welfare and Bait ul Mal Prof Dr Javed Akram and Minister of Auqaf, Zakat and Ushar Barrister Syed Azfar Ali Nasir met Global MICS Coordinator UNICEF Atila Henshioglu and his team at a local hotel on Monday.

The provincial ministers and the UNICEF delegation discussed the MICS initiatives in Punjab. The delegation informed the provincial ministers about the details of the medical and educational services being provided in Pakistan.

UNICEF South Asia Chief Planning Data Karen O'Toole, Data Manager M Ashraf, Noman Ghani, Uzmi Bukhari, LFO Sabahat Anbarin, Secretary School Education Department Ahsan Waheed, Special Secretary School Education Department Kulsoom Saqib and other officers were also present on this occasion.

Dr Javed Akram said that providing the best health and education facilities to children in Pakistan is a big challenge. Special attention is being paid to quality research in medical institutions to protect the children of Punjab from dangerous diseases. He said that the main purpose of establishing the University of Child Health Sciences was to conduct modern research to protect children from dangerous diseases.

The minister said that the chief minister is focusing all his attention on improving the health system. He said that we can protect our children from dangerous diseases only through modern research in the field of medicine.

Barrister Syed Azfar Ali Nasir said that the statistics are of fundamental importance to provide better health and education facilities to children. We are praying for the success of Medical Implant Communication Service programme in Punjab, he added.
