KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Sunday celebrated its victory in Karachi and Hyderabad in the General Elections 2024 by organising a musical evening at the Jinnah Ground in Azizabad.
This is the first time in eight years after disavowing its party chief Altaf Hussain, the MQM-P organised an event in the ground which was once a traditional place for public meetings of the MQM.
The event was attended by MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, senior deputy conveners Syed Mustafa Kamal, Dr Farooq Sattar and Nasreen Jalil, deputy conveners Anis Kaimkhani, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Abdul Waseem, and other members of the party’s Coordination Committee.
A large number of people, including former members of the national and provincial assemblies as well as senators belonging to the party, its candidates who have been declared successful after the February 8 elections, office-bearers, local bodies representatives and others participated in the celebration.
The roads leading to and around the Jinnah Ground were decorated with the MQM-P flags and lights. The party workers raised slogans and fireworks were also arranged to express joy. According to a statement issued by the party, the MQM-P's return to the Jinnah Ground with its mandate after a long struggle was a welcome development and a good omen for the urban Sindh, especially Karachi.
