Kiev: Ukraine on Wednesday accused pro-Russian separatists of targeting a Ukrainian checkpoint in the country’s conflict-ridden east with mortar fire, amid Western fears Moscow might be plotting an invasion.
Separatists fired at Ukrainian positions at the Marinka checkpoint in the eastern Donetsk region on Wednesday morning, the border guard service said in a statement. Three mortar bombs "damaged fortifications" but no one was injured, the statement added.
