Maryam Nawaz remains the nominee of her party for the chief minister of Punjab, though her election to the position by the new Punjab assembly, expected to convene in the coming days, has not yet occurred. Nevertheless, she appears to have already assumed the role, having already received a briefing from the chief secretary of the province and the CM’s security protocol.
This action is, to my knowledge, unprecedented, namely because she currently lacks official recognition as a government functionary. It is concerning that the chief secretary and other officials decided to meet with Maryam Nawaz prior to her formal inauguration. It would have been more appropriate for them to wait until after her official swearing-in ceremony before engaging in such interactions.
