A young man who was allegedly wounded by muggers’ firing in Malir on Saturday night succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday, bringing the year’s total number of fatalities in street crime incidents in the city to 28.
Police said Nabeel Ahmed Ansari, 35, was returning home after visiting his relatives when suspects on motorbikes robbed him in Saudabad, adding that the suspects shot him in the chest, leaving him critically wounded. Ansari was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
He had got married a year ago, and his daughter had been born a month ago. He was the family’s sole breadwinner, working at a bank. He lived in the Muhammad Ali Road area of Sher Shah.
Separately, a man was injured near Old Golimar in Pak Colony. He was taken to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was identified as Tanveer Ayub, 20. SHO Mukhtiar Panhwar said the victim is associated with a gang, adding that Ayub was wounded during an exchange of fire with a rival gang. The Crime Scene Unit found four shells of a 9mm pistol from the site of the incident.
Another man was injured near Gulshan-e-Maymar. He was identified as Jehangir Khan, 25. Police said the victim was cleaning his gun when it fired accidentally. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
