Muqam chairs PMLN’s parliamentary party meeting

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) Provincial President Engineer Amir Muqam said here on Sunday his party would play the role of an effective opposition in the KP Assembly together with other parties.

“The PML-N has decided to play the role of an effective opposition in the KP Assembly,” he said while talking to reporters after chairing the party KP Parliamentary Party meeting.

All the newly elected nine provincial assembly members of the party attended the meeting.

Amir Muqam congratulated all the elected members of the assembly on behalf of the party leadership. He said the nine members of the KP Assembly would raise their voices for the rights of the people and the province.

Meanwhile, the PMLN woman MPA-elect in the KP Assembly, Sobia Shahid, told the media the opposition parties would put up a unanimous candidate for the chief minister’s slot.

She said the opposition parties would name the candidates for the provincial assembly’s speaker and deputy speaker offices as well. An announcement would be made for that at a joint meeting of the opposition parties, said Sobia Shahid who has been elected to the provincial legislature on the seats reserved for women.

It needs to be mentioned here that elections were held on February 8 for 113 out of a total 115 general seats of the provincial assembly.

The independent candidates, backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, had secured 91 general seats.
