MULTAN: The Election Commission of Pakistan has adjourned the petition challenging the victory notification of former premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, who contested from NA-148 Multan-I.

The ECP adjourned the hearing until March 4 after the assistant returning officer concerned submitted the report about the constituency on Wednesday, as stated by the petitioner’s lawyer.

PTI-backed Independent candidate Barrister Taimur Mahay had filed his petition before the ECP, challenging the victory notification of Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, citing a significant difference between the Form-45 and Form-47 results, which allegedly led to the petitioner’s defeat by more than 100 votes.

The petitioner appealed to the ECP, claiming victory by a substantial margin based on Form 45. He argued that his 12,000 votes were unjustly rejected, resulting in a reversal of his victory to defeat by altering the results on Form-45 and invalidating his votes.

Meanwhile, legal and constitutional experts suggest that Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani may face difficulties as he is the proposed candidate for Senate chairman from his party. If his victory notification from NA-148 is not suspended, he may not be eligible to contest the Senate chairman poll.
