LAHORE: Six members of the Pakistan Boxing Team have landed in Baku to participate in the prestigious Great Silk Way International Boxing Tournament. According to the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), four boxers and two officials are representing Pakistan in the event, scheduled from March 24 to 28, 2024.
Led by three-star coach Ali Bakhsh Baloch, the Pakistani contingent includes international boxing referee Muhammad Aslam, who will serve as the referee judge during the tournament. The participating boxers are Muhammad Hadi (54 kg), Osama (67 kg), Adnan (71 kg), and Umeez (86 kg).
Sharjeel Zia Butt, Secretary General of the Pakistan Boxing Federation, highlighted the strategic decision to send young boxers to international tournaments to gain valuable experience. He expressed optimism that under the guidance of experienced officials like Ali Bakhsh and Muhammad Aslam, the team will deliver commendable performances and secure favorable outcomes.
“The participation of Pakistani boxers in international tournaments like the Great Silk Way International Boxing Tournament underscores the PBF’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering the growth of boxing in the country. By providing exposure to young athletes on the international stage, the federation aims to groom future champions and elevate Pakistan’s standing in the global boxing community,” he added.
