MIRANSHAH: A local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and a cop were killed in separate incidents of violence in Miranshah and Mir Ali areas in North Waziristan district.
The police said that unidentified armed men shot dead Maulana Noor Islam, who was the nazim of the Village Council Ghulam Khan, in Miranshah.
The armed men opened fire on the Maulana, leaving him dead on the spot. In the second incident, unidentified armed men gunned down a tribal elder identified as Malik Samiullah Khan Dawar, stated to be a sub-inspector in police, outside his home in Mir Ali tehsil in North Waziristan.
The accused in both the incidents fled the scene after committing the crime. The police registered the cases and started an investigation.
