ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Sunni Ittehad Council (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and other like-minded parties Tuesday decided to launch a joint struggle for the supremacy of Constitution and restoration of democracy.
The Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen hosted a consultative meeting here, which was attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser and Raoof Hasan, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Abdul Rahim Ziyaratwal, Sardar Shafiq Khan Tareen, Riaz Khan, Balochistan National Party’s Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, Sajid Khan and Tarin Parviz Zohoor, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Liaquat Baloch and Amir-ul-Azeem, SIC’s Sahibzada Muhammad Raza and MWM’s Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, Syed Asad Abbas Naqvi and Nasir Shirazi Mohsin Shehryar.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, it was noted that there are real threats to the Constitution and democracy: democracy and the state system are now completely paralysed by intervention.
The meeting expressed its deep concern over the increasing involvement of the establishment in politics and termed it as a threat to the security of the country and national institutions. “The establishment’s unconstitutional political role and interference has created a terrible distance between the people and the state,” it was emphasised. It was decided in the meeting that there was a need for a joint struggle to achieve these objectives and also contact other parties of Pakistan in view of these objectives.
The meeting agreed on the basic principles of complete restoration of the Constitution, rule of law, complete restoration of democracy through free and fair elections, independence of judiciary and civil supremacy. It noted that there were major threats to the country’s future. “Today’s meeting understands the fundamental reason for all the crises of the country and the deviation from the unanimous Constitution of the country and the disregard to the elected parliament of millions of people. That the Constitution will be protected and defended at all costs and there will be no compromise on it and that the real source and centre of the formation of Pakistan’s internal and external affairs will be the truly elected parliament of the people. No decision will be accepted and no one will be allowed to do so without the will and approval of parliament,” it was declared.
The meeting totally rejects the “changed” results of the general elections of February 8, 2024 in which the results were changed in a strong and very hypocritical manner and the foundation of the country’s disgrace and ridicule was laid all over the world, as well and the present “fake” government was imposed on the people.
The forum declared that the present and fake government has been given an artificial stability by the establishment and unelected people have been imposed on the people through rigging in the elections. The meeting demanded that the establishment immediately stop all kinds of interference in politics. All institutions, including the establishment, should abide by the Constitution and the limits prescribed by it and refrain from interfering in politics.
The meeting called for ensuring free, fair and fair elections in the country and that immediate electoral reforms should be carried out in which there is no unconstitutional involvement of armed forces and agencies. The meeting reiterated that the Constitution of 1973, the 18th Amendment and the NFC are a manifestation of national consensus.
The meeting rejected the nefarious design of the presidential system to rule the country and considered true federal parliamentary democracy as a guarantee of Pakistan’s security. “The meeting makes it clear bluntly that the supremacy of parliament will not be allowed to be undermined and there will not be a compromise on this. The cases against Imran Khan and other political leaders and political workers are baseless and false based on political vendetta. We strongly condemn the prosecution, arrests and detention and demand unconditional release,” it noted.
The forum lauded the courage, bravery and perseverance of the courageous people of the media and all the leaders and workers facing political vengeance. The meeting condemned in the strongest terms the unconstitutional and undemocratic behavior against those who are raising their voice. It demanded that all these measures should be avoided, which are against basic human rights, humanity and constitutional rights. It demanded that extension in the tenure of current and retired generals, judges and favorite government employees should be stopped.
The forum demanded immediate restoration of civilian authority across the country and snatching of rights through FC and other institutions, being an unconstitutional and illegal process, should be stopped and sees it with hatred. “Today’s meeting expresses deep sorrow and regret over the forcible disappearance of political activists and dumping of mutilated bodies across the country. It calls for the recovery of all missing persons. The meeting views the country’s incompetent government’s ongoing severe inflation, worst unemployment, the steep rise in the prices of electricity, gas and petroleum products every day and the government’s lavish expenditure with great hatred and demands an end to the bribery by those in the establishment and corruption mafia contractors.”
The forum said due to the wrong internal and failed policies of civil servants, political instability and global isolation in the country and in order to bring the country out of political stability and global isolation, the formulation of the country’s internal and foreign policy is necessary from the country’s truly elected parliament.
