ISLAMABAD: Like in several Islamic countries, the faithful in Pakistan are celebrating Eidul Fitr today (Wednesday, April 10).

Chairman of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, after chairing and receiving evidence from across the country, announced that the crescent of Shawwal, 1445 Hijri, has been sighted. Therefore, Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Wednesday (today). He told the media that evidence regarding the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal, 1445 Hijri, has been received from different cities of the country.

According to official sources, the crescent was sighted in different parts of Balochistan, Karachi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some parts of Punjab. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad offered special prayers for oppressed Muslims of Palestine, Indian Occupied Kashmir and elsewhere in the world and for the well well-being and security of Pakistan.

This is a coincidence that Muslims in several countries would celebrate Eid on the same day.

Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday.

However, India and Bangladesh announced to celebrate Eid on April 11 (Thursday) as Shawwal crescent was not sighted there.
