Minister orders timely completion of ‘Lahore Revamping Plan’

LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique directed to complete the ‘Lahore Revamping Plan’ as per deadline given by the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

He issued this direction while chairing a meeting at the Commissioner’s Office here Tuesday. During the meeting, Punjab chief minister’s ‘Lahore Revamping Plan’ was reviewed in detail. Commissioner Lahore M Ali Randhawa, DC Rafia Haider and other officers concerned attended the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting that committees consisting of elected representatives will be formed to monitor the revamping process.

The minister directed all civic services agencies including Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, Wasa, LDA and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) to avoid duplication of development schemes and submit the details of prepared projects for further deliberations and approval. He said that after the completion of the revamping plan, not a single street or sewage artery will remain unpaved in the provincial capital. He said that the executing agencies should ensure GIS mapping of revamping schemes.

The minister, while directing the arrangements for temporary drainage of sewage water on Bund Road, vowed to implement a strict system of monitoring mechanism in the revamping plan. He said that it is difficult to achieve the goals of providing civic facilities without the participation of citizens. “Special attention should be given to community mobilisation in “Lahore Revamping Plan” by the CM Maryam Nawaz, he resolved.

Zeeshan said that the system of immediate redressal of citizens’ complaints will also be made effective. During the meeting, the minister directed the officers of LWMC to stay in the field and emphasised that even during the Eid holidays, the work of waste collection should be completed by going door to door.

Commissioner Lahore said that the experiences of “Suthra Punjab” and “Ab Gaon Chamkeinge” programmes will be taken into consideration during the revamping plan.

He directed the Ruda to find a permanent solution to the sewage problems in Aziz Bhatti Town. DC Lahore told the meeting that she is reviewing the schemes of Wasa and LDA on daily basis.
