Eradicating abuse

Saturday, Apr 13, 2024

There appears to have been a surge in sexual assault incidents in Pakistan in recent years, highlighting a critical need for societal introspection and a call for systemic change to safeguard the most vulnerable members of society. Ensuring the rigorous enforcement of protective laws is also an essential step in this direction. The government, along with various NGOs, has been striving to tackle this issue. However, the persistence of such crimes signals that efforts must be intensified.

The media’s role is crucial in this endeavour, as it must provide responsible coverage that respects the dignity of survivors while keeping the public informed and engaged in the fight against sexual violence. It is also the collective responsibility of all sectors of society to stand in solidarity with survivors and to work tirelessly towards eradicating this scourge. This includes supporting initiatives that educate and empower individuals, advocating for stronger legal protections, and cultivating a culture that unequivocally condemns any form of abuse.
