The politicization of high-profile appointments is the root cause behind the failure of many of our state-owned companies. In some ways, the same can be said of our federal and provincial cabinets where ministers tend to be appointed based on loyalty rather than proven qualifications and experience in a particular field. Merit must prevail for the ultimate success and prosperity of the country.
