LONDON: West Ham winger George Earthy has been discharged from hospital following the head injury he suffered against Fulham.

The 19-year-old had just come on as a substitute for his Premier League debut when he collided with team-mate Edson Alvarez in the middle of the field. Earthy fell to the ground awkwardly and appeared to have been knocked out cold, sparking worrying scenes as team-mates and medics from both clubs rushed to help the stricken youngster.

After receiving treatment for eight minutes, Earthy was carried off on a stretcher. He was conscious when he was taken out of the London Stadium in an ambulance around 20 minutes after full-time. West Ham say Earthy has now returned to his home and will follow Football Association and Premier League concussion guidelines ahead of any return to action.

Hammers medical chief Richard Collinge said: “George is back home and we will continue to monitor him over the coming days as he completes the graduated return to play programme.”

The club added: “West Ham United wishes to place on record its thanks to our own medical team, as well as their counterparts at Fulham and Medics24, our pitchside rescue team, for the immediate response to yesterday’s incident.“The club also extends its thanks for the many messages of support sent to George.

“Everyone at West Ham United wishes George a safe and speedy recovery.”The incident overshadowed a 2-0 victory for Fulham courtesy of two goals from Andreas Pereira.
