ISLAMABAD. An accountability court Friday accepted requests for a medical examination of the PTI founder chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and directed Bushra Bibi’s endoscopy in a private hospital within two days.
Imran has claimed that Bushra Bibi has been given food mixed with toilet cleaner.
During the hearing of £190 million NCA case at the Adiala Jail, Imran told Judge Nasir Javed Rana that additional walls had been erected in the courtroom, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a closed court.
The judge directed the jail administration to remove the additional barriers immediately and adjourned the hearing for an hour. The jail administration obeyed the order and removed the additional barriers within no time.
Later, the defence lawyers filed an application regarding the difficulties to the media during the hearing of the case on which the judge called the media representatives and Imran Khan to the rostrum and inquired about the problems.
The media persons replied that there were difficulties in listening to the court proceedings on which the judge directed the jail administration to take action.
Imran said Shaukat Khanum Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr Asim Yousaf had recommended Bushra Bibi’s tests at the Shifa International Hospital but the jail administration was adamant on conducting the test at the PIMS.
The court advised Imran to refrain from holding “press conferences” during the hearings, to which he responded that his statements were misquoted and he engaged with journalists to clarify them. He also requested that the court allow him a 10-minute interaction with the media after the hearings. Later, the court adjourned the hearing until April 23.
