Six IT courses to be conducted in 16 districts in May: minister

LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Industry and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain Monday said free short courses would be initiated under the Chief Minister's Skill Development Initiative.

Chairing a meeting at Tevta Secretariat, the minister said six courses with international certification would be conducted in 35 institutes of 16 districts from May 15 under IT experts.

The meeting reviewed the ongoing programme for the promotion of technical education with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The features of Chief Minister Skill Development Initiative 2024 were also discussed in the meeting and the minister was told about the proposed legislation regarding price control. Under the programme, centres of excellence will be created in 8 sectors including food processing, information communication technology, textile and garments and construction sectors and a separate board of management will be formed for these institutions.

The minister said the government will change the destiny of the country by equipping the youth with modern sciences. He ordered biometric attendance system of students and staff in technical universities and institutions.

Instead of constructing new buildings, the up-gradation of existing institutions should be focused, the minister said. The institutions should work in a coordinated manner for the promotion of quality technical education. The provincial minister also directed to improve the website of Tevta.

Secretary Industry and Commerce Ehsan Bhutta, Chairman Tevta, DG Industries, Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities, Senior Economic Advisor and officers concerned also attended the meeting.
