MANSEHRA: Security for Chinese convoys passing through Lower Kohistan has been enhanced to a level where miscreants will not be able to repeat the Bisham-like subversive activity on Karakoram Highway (KKH) in future, said a senior police officer.

“Our gallant force has rendered unprecedented sacrifices to flush out terrorism from this province, and we will follow suit for the safety of Chinese executing mega energy projects on our soil,” Lower Kohistan District Police Officer Mohammad Umar said while speaking to police Darbar at Police Lines after assuming his office. SP Investigation Tahirur Rehman, SDPO Pattan Circle Raja Khan, SDPO Bankhad Ranowalia Aurangzeb Khan and SHOs of all police stations across the district were in attendance. KP Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Gandapur last week replaced Umar with his predecessor Jamil Akhtar suspended allegedly over the lapse of security after the Bisham suicide attack on a convoy in which five Chinese, and a Pakistani driver were killed on March 26, last month. The DPO, who laid the floral wreath at the memorial to the martyrs and was presented the guard of honour by a police contingent on his arrival at Police Lines, said that foolproof security for the Chinese convoys passing through KKH here was being ensured. He said the strength of force deployed at Chakai Post which links KKH with Shangla, and Matta Banda post which connects neighbouring Upper Kohistan was being enhanced. He warned of stern action over any negligence in providing foolproof security to the Chinese on the KKH.
