Islamabad:Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir have played pivotal role in bringing Pakistan and Iran closer together, emphasised Chairman Tehreek Jawanaan Pakistan (TJP) Mohammad Abdullah Gul in a press release on Tuesday.

Gul hailed the visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi as highly significant, particularly given the ongoing turmoil in the region, with Israel and its allies engaged in violence against Palestinians. He highlighted the importance of the two neighbouring Islamic countries forging stronger ties, facilitated by the efforts of Prime Minister Sharif and General Munir.

Emphasising the potential benefits of trade conducted in local currencies or through barter systems, Gul noted that such arrangements could significantly reduce Pakistan's reliance on the dollar, leading to greater stability for the rupee and cheaper imports. Under the agreements, Pakistan is set to receive electricity, gas, and oil from Iran at favourable rates, while also exploring opportunities to export dairy products, commodities, and agricultural machinery.

Addressing speculation about the recent visit of a Saudi Arabian trade delegation to Pakistan, Gul dismissed suggestions that it was linked to influencing Iran's visit, asserting that Pakistan's focus remains on strengthening ties with both countries independently.

In conclusion, Gul urged for the swift implementation of these agreements, emphasising that they should be driven by the mutual benefit and development of the two brotherly nations, rather than external pressures. The burgeoning partnership between Pakistan and Iran holds great promise for regional stability and economic growth.
