LAHORE: The parched landscapes of Punjab were drenched in much-needed rainfall Friday as stormy showers cascaded down upon cities, offering respite from the scorching heat that had gripped the region.
Throughout the day, Lahore, the bustling metropolis, sweltered under intense heat, but as evening descended, the heavens opened up, unleashing torrents of rain accompanied by hailstorms in various parts of the city.
The weather office had earlier issued warnings of stormy rains coupled with gusty winds across all provinces.
Ghufran Ahmed, Managing Director of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), assured the public that the agency personnel were diligently patrolling the streets to preempt any untoward incidents and to ensure the smooth drainage of rainwater through the city’s intricate network of drains.
Additionally, traffic police remained vigilant on the roads to manage the influx of vehicles and mitigate traffic snarls in affected areas of Lahore.
Farmers, amidst the hustle of the rainy season, were advised by the weather office to remain vigilant, especially during the wheat harvesting season, to mitigate potential risks associated with inclement weather.
According to reports from the Meteorological Department, rainfall was recorded across various parts of Lahore.
Jail Road received 6 mm of rainfall, while the airport recorded 10.6 mm. In Gulberg and Lakshmi Chowk, 6 mm and 7 mm of rain were respectively documented.
The other areas of the city also witnessed varying degrees of rainfall, with Upper Mall receiving 6 mm, Mughalpura 7.5 mm, and Iqbal Town receiving a notable 12 mm.
The precipitation ranged from 1 mm in Farrukhabad to 14 mm in Johar Town, showcasing the diverse impact of the rains across Lahore.
