Drugs worth Rs1bn seized on Pak-Afghan border: official

PESHAWAR: Chief Collector of Customs for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saeed Akram said on Saturday that the seizure of narcotics worth Rs1 billion on the Pak-Afghan border was a success in battle against drugs.

Addressing a press conference at the Customs House, Akram emphasised that smuggling attempts through any means would be thwarted at all costs.

Accompanied by Collector Appraisement Amjad Rahman, Customs Deputy Commissioner Torghar Hasib Bajwa, and other officials, he revealed that they had received intelligence regarding the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics from Afghanistan to Pakistan via Torkham.

A suspicious vehicle coming from Afghanistan was intercepted, a comprehensive search was conducted, revealing 18kg heroin and 14kg ice concealed in its secret compartments. The estimated value of the drugs in the international market was said to be Rs1 billion, he added.
