PESHAWAR: Mian Iftikhar Hussain was elected president of the Awami National Party (ANP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, in the intra-party elections held here on Wednesday. All the office-bearers were elected unopposed with the consensus of provincial executive council members, said a communique issued by the Bacha Khan Markaz, the central office of the Awami National Party.
Former senator Syed Aqil Shah was chosen senior vice-president while Hussain Shah Yusufzai from Lower Dir was elected as provincial general secretary of the party.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who is also central general secretary of the party, presided over the intra-party polls as chairman of the election commission of the party.
The former central senior vice-president of the party, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, outgoing provincial president ANP Aimal Wali Khan, senior leader Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and other party leaders were present.
Mian Iftikhar has served as provincial general secretary for two terms in the past and would now replace Senator Aimal Wali Khan who is likely to be nominated as central president of the Pakhtun nationalist party.
The ANP provincial council members also elected Shahi Khan Sherani as vice-president-1, Qasim Ali Khan as vice-president-2 and SalahudDin Khan as vice-president-3 of the party while Irum Fatima will be vice-president for the women’s wing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rehmat Ali Khan from Swat was elected additional general secretary while Mutawakkil Khan as deputy general secretary for the provincial chapter.
Hamid Khan Toofan was chosen joint secretary-1, Ayaz Shughaib Khan joint secretary-2, Matiullah Marwat joint secretary-3 and Shaheen Zameer joint secretary for women were elected in the new set up of the ANP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Arsalan Khan Nazim was elected information secretary while Haroon Khan was given the responsibility of provincial finance secretary of the ANP.
Former student leader Tariq Afghan and Sana Gulzar were elected as provincial secretary for youth affairs of the ANP while Akbar Hoti was appointed social media coordinator and Gulshan Yousuf elected secretary for minority affairs.
Former provincial general secretary of the ANP, Sardar Hussain Babak, who was elected to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly thrice, former provincial information secretary and ex-MPA Samar Haroon Bilour, former deputy speaker Khushdil Khan, former MPA and provincial vice-president Saqibullah Khan Chamkani and others were not accommodated.
