Punjab to launch free motorbike scheme for girls: Maryam

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that the government is launching a free motorbikes scheme for girls and requested parents to trust their daughters and grant them permission to use it.

She expressed the views at the first Chief Minister Pink Games closing ceremony at a gymnasium and presented a trophy to the Lahore College for Women University winning team. She also distributed prizes among the successful teams.

She said a young and talented sports minister had been appointed in Punjab, who would extend the scope of Pink Games across Punjab. The CM announced, “We are going to launch Punjab League after the Pink Games in which one million players will participate. We will extend the scope of Punjab League across the province.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador of Korea Park Kijun called on her. She said the provincial government wanted to benefit from Korean technology for industrial development. Both sides discussed possible avenues of mutual cooperation in different fields. Emphasizing the need to promote bilateral cooperation, the CM said, “We will welcome Korean partnership in electronics, automobiles and information technology.”

The chief minister highlighted that Punjab had huge investment potential in agriculture and mining. “We intend to learn from Korean expertise in agriculture to increase our per acre crop yield,” she said and added that bilateral trade volume with Korea should also increase further.

Earlier, CM Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the remodelling project of Shahdara metro bus station and visited it. Later, she boarded the metro bus, travelled up to Gaddafi Stadium and closely monitored the situation. Secretary Transport & Mass Transit Authority Ahmed Javed Qazi informed the CM that more than 1.36 billion passengers had travelled in metro bus so far. More than 176,000 passengers travel by metro bus service daily.

Separately, CM Maryam Nawaz attended the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Road Show 2024. She lauded the LWMC over its performance and announced a substantial budget of Rs200 billion for it. The allocation was aimed at implementing a robust solid waste system in 36 districts of Punjab, mirroring the successful model in Lahore. Furthermore, directives were issued for expeditious construction of five scientific landfill sites and 10 material recovery filters.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, meanwhile, expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of five people due to poisonous food in Tandlianwala. She offered condolences and expressed her heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family. She sought a report from the IGP on the matter.
