Supporters of PMLN and PTI lawmakers clash

PESHAWAR: A heavy contingent of police rushed to Ring Road in the limits of Faqirabad Police Station after a clash between the supporters of two elected lawmakers from the rival parties here on Monday.

A large number of armed guards were seen creating a scene after the clash between the two rival groups.There were reports that Malik Tariq, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from the provincial capital belonging to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, along with his workers clashed with the supporters of Asif Khan, a member of the National Assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from Peshawar.

Reports said the MPA led his workers who chanted slogans against the rival MNA over some local issue. An official of the Peshawar Police said there was no firing incident. He said senior police officials were on the spot after workers of two rival parties chanted slogans against each other and exchanged harsh words. He said the situation was under control.

Many of the members in the provincial capital move with several escort cars and dozens of gunmen, including policemen, since the February 8 elections. It is not known whether these guards are allowed by the police and the government or if they are carrying these guards unlawfully, triggering terror in society.
