ISLAMABAD: A decision has been made to take actionagainst those running a campaign on social media against Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), sources have said. According to sources, in light of a letter written to Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, a decision has been made to initiate contempt of court proceedings.
Reliable sources in the IHC have informed this correspondent that Justice Babar Sattar had written a letter to CJ Aamer Farooq regarding the negative propaganda campaign being run against him on social media. It has been decided to convert the letter into a contempt of court case after assigning it a diary number.
It should be noted that false claims made in the social media campaign against Justice Babar Sattar’s American citizenship were refuted through a clarification press release issued by the high court on April 28, stating that Justice Babar Sattar does not hold American citizenship. He possesses a green card, and this fact was not concealed but was made known to then Chief Justice Athar Minallah before Justice Babar’s appointment as a judge.
The press release stated that a baseless and derogatory campaign was being run against Justice Babar Sattar on social media. The travel documents of Justice Babar Sattar’s wife and children were posted on social media. Confidential information regarding Justice Babar Sattar is being posted and reposted. Despite the clarification press release issued by the high court, the campaign on social media has not stopped. Therefore, a decision has been made to take action against the responsible parties for contempt of court.
