ISLAMABAD: Gary Kirsten, Pakistan team white-ball head coach, says collective efforts, right planning, team unity and support for each other will help achieve success in the forthcoming T20 World Cup to start from June 1 in US and Caribbean Islands.

Kirsten, who confirmed his joining the national cricket team on May 19, three days ahead of the start of the four-match T-20 series against England, said that bringing out the best in Pakistan team and achieving ultimate success will be his top priorities.

“It is a golden opportunity for me and for my team to achieve success in the T20 World Cup, confirming Pakistan’s status as one of the best outfits in the world. For that you need steadfastness, support for each other and better planning. Look hosts of other teams (19) will be there carrying same hopes to do well for their respective nations. We need to stay disciplined and firm in our efforts to outclass opponents during the mega event. I will extend all possible support to the boys to achieve that goal.

“I am a big fan of achievers. Once I decide to support a player for his abilities to make a difference, I will support him forever in an effort to see him producing his best.” The South Africa based former Test cricketer termed his association with Pakistan on a two-year contract for white-ball cricket as a big opportunity to unleash his coaching skills. “It is indeed a big honour for me to coach such a talented and active unit. I will bring my best to see the team achieving laurels in white-ball cricket. I want to contribute to Pakistan success by playing my role as a coach.

“I’m truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men’s cricket team. It’s an honour to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I’m eager to contribute to their success on the international stage.

“These are indeed thrilling times for Pakistan cricket, with a new administration and players who are driven to deliver solid results. The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 presents a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills and uphold Pakistan’s legacy as a formidable force in cricket.

“However, success will require collective effort, meticulous planning and unwavering support for one another. With 19 other teams vying for the title, we must consistently outperform our rivals to realise our aspirations. “On a personal level, I’ve missed the experience of coaching at the international level and nurturing talented players to reach their full potential. I’m committed to working closely with the team to elevate their game and bring joy to fans around the world.” The 56-year-old Gary Kirsten coached Gujrat Titans in the IPL.

Meanwhile, the PCB on the recommendations of head coach has included Simon Helmet (fielding coach) and David Reid (Mental Performance Coach) in the coaching staff. Reid will start his duties from the series against England while Australian Helmet will be joining the team ahead of team’s departure to the US for T20 World Cup. Aftab Khan who is currently attached with the team as fielding coach will start his duties as High Performance coach.
