ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finally announced the name of its MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.

The Sunni Ittehad Council, which represents the PTI in the National Assembly, proposed his name.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Chairman Sunni Alliance, wrote a letter to the National Assembly speaker a copy of which has also been sent to the National Assembly secretary and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

Several weeks back, during a media chat in Rawalpindi, after his meeting with the party’s founder chairman Imran Khan, Gohar had announced the name of senior PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat for the post.

Afterwards, names of other party members also made headlines and remained in circulation on the social media. They included Senator Hamid Khan, whereas a senator can’t head the committee.

Recently, the name of Sheikh Waqas Akram also appeared in the media reports.

Sher Afzal Marwat, the first nominee, is facing the wrath of the party for his ‘controversial statements, which ‘hurt the party interests as well as of founder chairman Imran Khan. He has been thrown out of the PTI core committee and political committee and served a show cause notice too.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub has said that the decision on naming the PTI (SIC’s) parliamentary leader will be made within two days.

He explained that a meeting of the PTI’s political committee will be convened and final decisions, including the parliamentary leader, will be taken.

He revealed that the founder chairman had named Zain Qureshi (son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi) and also directed that the matter should be placed in the political committee.
