Islamabad:A speedy car trampled over Gaza Camp staged by the activists at Express Chowk to observe sit-in to register their protest against the atrocity of Israel against Palestinians, killing two activists on the spot while four others including a police officer, wounded critically.
The car smashed into the group of activists on wee hours of Monday and sped away towards Ayub Chowk when they were sleeping at the protesting point beside the Express Chowk at about 2:45 am, police said.
The patrolling police of Kohsar police station, however, arrested the driver identified as Bilal Faisal and shifted him to police station and lodged first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Inspector Ejaz Ahmad under sections 322/337-G/ 427 and 279 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and initiated investigation. Inspector Ejaz Ahmad sustained serious injuries during the incident.
The police deployed for the security of the people staging sit-in reported that a black car bearing registration number AUV- 385 was speeding from Jinnah Avenue towards Express Chowk, where a group of young people were holding a sit-in protest against the Israeli military's atrocities in Gaza, the car broke through barriers, ran over the protesters, and fled the scene.
An alert call was transmitted on wireless about the vehicle, consequently, the patrolling police intercepted it within the jurisdiction of Kohsar Police Station. The driver was apprehended and taken into custody at the police station.
Two people – Mohammad Romaan Sajid and an unknown person of the age between 40 to 45 years – were killed while, three persons including Mohammad Talha Ilyas, Hammad Hassan, Faisal Hayyat and police Inspector Ejaz Ahmad wounded critically, police said and added that dead bodies and injured were shifted to PIMS Hospital. Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, leader of Jamait-e-Islami claimed that the car was deliberately crashed onto the activists, which should be enquired properly.
