Rescue 1122 service on motorways from Dec: minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Specialised Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique announced that the Punjab government will launch the Emergency Rescue 1122 service on motorways in December this year and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) will assist in training the rescue personnel.

The provincial minister emphasised the importance of utilising universities as think tanks, a resource previously under-utilised, and stated that University of Health Sciences’s support would be sought continually in the future.

He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting at University of Health Sciences on Monday. Earlier, Khawaja Salman visited the UHS facilitation centre, where University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor briefed him on the services provided to students.

The health minister interacted with students at the centre and expressed his admiration for the facilities being provided to hundreds of students daily. He praised UHS's exceptional services and mentioned his long-standing relationship with the university.

The health minister highlighted the presence of 32 PhD faculty members at University of Health Sciences and suggested increasing this number. The minister also announced plans to visit the university’s new campus next week.

The University of Health Sciences vice chancellor informed the minister that this centre is the university's first point of contact, providing services related to degrees, registration, and examinations.

Prof Rathore stated that university laboratories are equipped with the latest equipment and have the potential to become centres of excellence in diagnostic services. With government support, the laboratories could function as a referral lab for all of Punjab, he opined.

radiation facility at Mayo: Provincial Minister for Health Khawaja Salman Rafique paid a detailed visit to the Oncology Department of Mayo Hospital on Monday. On this occasion, Chief Executive Officer Prof Ahsan Nauman, Chief Operating Officer Prof Faisal Masood, Head of Department Prof Abbas Khokhar and other faculty members were present. The provincial health minister inspected the radiation machine, chemotherapy centre and other medical facilities in the oncology department.
