KARACHI: A sessions court on Monday sentenced a man to death in a double murder case. Aijaz Bahadur was found guilty of shooting to death his brothers-in-law — Iftikhar and Abid — within the jurisdiction of the Jackson police station in 2020.
District and Sessions Judge (West) Obaid Ahmed Khan announced his order reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides. The judge ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved the charges against the accused, and handed down death sentence to him.
The convict was also ordered to pay Rs1 million as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased or undergo an additional six-month imprisonment. Additionally, the judge awarded five-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 to the accused on the charge of possession of an unlicensed pistol.
According to the prosecution, Bahadur was already married when he tied the knot with Bushra, the sister of the deceased persons. When Bushra's mother and sister learned that she was unwell, they went to visit her, it said, adding that the accused insulted them and expelled them from his house.
The prosecution said that when Bushra's brothers Iftikhar and Abid found out about this, they became furious and went to confront Bahadur at his house where the accused shot them dead with a 9mm pistol. Two separate FIRs were lodged at the Jackson police station under the sections 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and the section 23(i)(a) of the Sindh Arms Act.
