Police have arrested a security guard accused of the murder of a 15-year-old boy in North Karachi’s Sector-A last week. The police also seized a weapon from his possession.
On June 7, the security guard, Ramazan, had injured teenage garbage collector Sameed Gul by shooting him in the chest. The suspect had fled after the shooting, but the police arrested him during an operation.
According to the police, the suspect claims that he tried to stop the garbage collector from entering the street, but he did not listen, so he opened fire.
The injured youth was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Before his arrest, Ramazan had released a video statement in which he explained that he had mistakenly shot the boy as punishment for the misdeeds of a dumb animal, a donkey.
“The donkey had littered the street, so I told it to move away," Ramazan stated. "Then, accidentally, the gun went off when my and the boy's hands collided. The gun was loaded, which caused it to fire," he explained.
