Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Monday directed all deputy commissioners to take immediate action to remove all illegal cattle markets in the city.
He chaired a meeting at his office regarding the establishment of illegal cattle markets in the city.
The commissioner was informed that all deputy commissioners were making efforts to remove illegal markets in their respective districts, and so far 33 markets had been removed citywide.
As many as 15 markets were removed from District Malir, three from District Korangi, two from District Central, 10 from District East, two from District Keamari, and one from District South.
The commissioner was told that three individuals were arrested in District South.
The meeting was informed that even markets authorised by the Karachi Municipal Corporation and the Pakistan Railways were being removed.
Both organisations had been told that they were not authorised to issue permissions for cattle markets.
Naqvi stated that all markets operating without the permission of the city administration were illegal. He said illegal cattle markets were causing traffic problems and difficulties for pedestrians, and immediate action was needed to remove them.
He emphasised that all markets established without the Karachi administration's permission were illegal. He instructed the deputy commissioners to file cases against them and take legal action.
Deputy Commissioner South Altaf Sario reported to the commissioner that following a complaint from neighbourers, the Mukhtarkar sub-division Garden took action and removed an illegal cattle market established in Union Committee Five, Sadar Town, and handed over three responsible individuals to the police.
