Karachi’s fate

Friday, Jun 14, 2024

This letter refers to the editorial ‘The streets of Karachi’ (June 8, 2024). Karachi is also often compared with Mumbai, India and the reason why the former is lagging behind is because its politicians do not prioritize the safety and security of their constituents, which paints a very disheartening picture. The impunity with which criminals plunder and kill people is alarming. Previously, such thieves would hide their identities for fear of being caught. Now it seems as though they enjoy absolute power in the city, confidently mugging people under the watchful eyes of CCTV cameras, in front of police vans and in relatively secure areas. It is high time that Karachi’s political parties stopped pointing fingers at each other and came up with a coherent plan to heal the city.
