Indian PM Narendra Modi’s BJP has secured an incredible third term in power. PM Modi’s posture on security was seen in how his government responded to the Uri attack in 2016 and the Pulwama attack in 2019, which resulted in increased tensions with Pakistan. However, there were also occasional indications of diplomacy such as his call to Nawaz Sharif in 2015 and the bilateral ceasefire agreement in 2021.
Better relations between India and Pakistan could create opportunities for bilateral cooperation that improve regional stability and act as a catalyst for bringing in foreign investment, thus stimulating economic growth in the two countries. The future dynamics of relations which will determine the fluidity of cooperation will be shaped deeply through diplomacy.
