Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded the government ensure release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui who has been incarcerated in a jail in the United States.
He made the demand as he visited Dr Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui at her residence on the first day of Eidul Azha. Speaking on the occasion, the JI emir said Dr Aafia had been languishing in the jail for the last 21 years despite the fact that she was declared as the daughter of the nation by a prime minister on the floor of the legislature.
He condemned former military dictator Pervez Musharraf saying that he had ordered the arrest of Dr Aafia against a few dollars. The JI chief urged the prime minister to play his due role in repatriation of Dr Aafia.
